Welcome to the G

The GLoBALL summer calendar began with a bang yesterday when 15 new migrants and international students were given their first taste of live cricket at the MCG.

Initiated by Cricket Victoria and the Essendon Football Club, GLoBALL organised for the participants to attend the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers' clash with Western Australia, as well as the National Sports Museum, at the world's premier sporting stadium.

Youth workers Andrew Holt, Mike Enticott and BJ Kour attended the event with the aim of providing Sudanese migrants Lok Yien Fouch, 21, and Syemun Nienkel, 17, with the experience of watching Australia's favourite game.

"It's about giving them new experiences and exposing them to different sports and activities," Holt said.

However, an insight into the game of cricket was not the only feature of the day.

A tour of the National Sports Museum also allowed for the participants to gain knowledge about other Australian sports.

"They were keen to have a look at the Sports Museum. We were there for two hours," Holt said.

"We are definitely keen to get a few more boys and bring them back."

The next GLoBALL event will be held on December 13, 2011 at the Melbourne Stars' training session.
